The strings are thicker, and the sound is softer, deeper and velvety.
The timbre of the Alto Domra can be divided into three parts: upper, middle and lower. In the upper register, the instrument has a brightness of sound. At the bottom, the instrument sounds closer to the bass. The middle register gives the alto domra a special sound. It can be compared with a low female voice.
